EMPLOYEE AND HUMAN RESOURCES
Rid the Practice of Emotional Distress: Hire Right……Not Often (2-3 hours)
Most practice owners and hospital managers focus on the financial aspects of their practice. Employment law issues usually take a back seat to other business management concerns such as marketing and practice growth. Problems related to employees’ are usually dealt with on a case by case basis and without much uniformity; the two ingredients of a disaster. Employers muddle through employment related issues relying on little more than instinct, and expend money plus valuable time to resolve a situation that could have been avoided with a little preventative planning. Attendees will learn how to navigate these troubled waters through preventative practices and knowing when and who to call for expert advice.
Understanding Employee Motivation and How to Get It (1 hour)
Employees start out wanting to do a good job. So what causes them to lose their motivation? There are certain basic strategies for keeping employees motivated and wanting to perform to the best of their abilities. This lecture will address some of those strategies and what can be done to help them feel appreciated and motivated.
Employee Manuals: Friend or Foe? (2 hours)
Drafted improperly, employee manuals can cause employers to commit to obligations they never intended and lead to mismatched expectations between themselves and their employees. The employee manual should provide employees with the philosophy of the practice and policies to be followed, as well as, educate them on the practice’s services, products and clientele. Most “sample” manuals that are purchased at office superstores or on line are nothing more then live grenades. There is no size that fits all. Just as every practice is unique so should be their employee manual. The goal of this presentation is to give the attendees a basic understanding of what should and should not be in an employee manual and how to go about putting one together.

The way your employees view their job and the practice is the way they are going to perform in their job. This presentation will walk you through motivating employees using internal and external factors which can increase employee morale and reduce turnover rate.
Establishing Expectations for Performance Improvement or Discipline (1 hour)
Every practice should periodically evaluate the members of their work force. This is critical to ensuring growth of the business. Communicating expectations, providing rewards and creating accountability through consequences are difficult steps to implement. By following several simple procedures, management can make this process less painful. Attendees will learn how to enhance employee performance through use of rewards and consequences.
Performance Management Program Workshop (It is Not Just a Form but a Program With a Process (3 hours)
A Performance Management Program (PMP) should align the organizational needs and compensation/incentive opportunities with the Practice’s strategic business plan. An effective PMP emphasizes that clear and frequent communications about performance is the key to maximizing productivity, employee satisfaction and employee development. Employees have a strong need for a clear sense of direction, knowledge of how they are doing, a supportive environment in which they can reach their goals and recognition for achievement. When these are met, high levels of motivation, growth and results occur both for individuals and for the Practice. A PMP is a joint, year-round effort in which the supervisor/manager and employee engage in continuous feedback dialogue to strengthen performance, achieve goals in support of the Practice’s mission and accomplish employee’s development plans. Attendees will learn what it takes to define and develop a Performance Management Program, and how to successfully implement.
